RACHEL BELLINSKY

OUR TAKE
When critiquing Rachel Bellinksy’s photos, one finds him or herself peering for clues on what is real and what is an illusion. The photos of the houses in the background remind one of dreams or a Déjà vu, when our minds feel most distant from reality. The added textures and elements that Bellinsky uses in post-production take her photos beyond the ordinary, allowing for the liberation of the mind with imaginative landscapes. As with her work, Surrealism art takes the viewer down the rabbit hole and elicits dream-like states with otherworldly scenes, Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis, and the juxtaposition of realities. She wants viewers to participate in the temporary escape into her work:

I hope the end result is a visual retreat – the scene you imagine when you’re looking for the escape hatch.
